E C H O Update: When Security manager Danny Sumner and Glendale McLaurin, also Security, drove away in two Greenspring vans on the way to ECHO pantry on Old Keene Mill Road, the vans were so packed the rear of the vans sagged. The supplemental drive to furnish food for the often empty pantry which is furnished monthly by the three Faith Councils at services in the Village Church and some of the various clubs on campus was the idea of Diane Havinga of Channel 6 and Karen King of Human Resources. Total collection was 80 grocery bags! March 2006
is theShining Star for February. Other nominees for the month are Kim Kelley, John St. Louis, Michelle Singleton, Hiwit Tadesse, Jacqueline Carter, Katia Kupraty, Rosa Funmes, Beverly Danby, Joseph Barrows and Brittany Lee. Nominations forms are available at all front desks in the community buildings. The forms should be returned to the Erickson Way Committee Box located in each community building by the 20th day of the month in a sealed envelope addressed “Shining Star”
Happy Ribbon Cutting :Ben Cornthwaithe, Assistant Administrator, Renaissance Gardens; Elaine Sorensen, president of Resident Council; and Ian Lee Brown, Executive Director were elated with the request to cut the ribbon in the walkway between the two wings of Renaissance Gardens as it represented a countdown to finish. There was excitement for the last structure built on campus and in January was officially opened with the first floor ready for Assisted Living residents. and officially opening in January
The first floor of the three-story building, Evergreen Terrace. was opened to Assistant Living. The second floor for Skilled Nursing opened in February. With the opening of the three-story Evergreen Terrace, left, joined to Rose Court the four-story building which opened in June 2001, Renaissance Gardens in considered complete. The present census is 102 residents in three floors of Assisted Living and 80 in three floors of Skilled Nursing. The third floor of Evergreen Terrace is projected to open in June. High Five these two: Roshan Sakhrani, Dining Services Supervisor, and Maria Jefferson, Communications Specialist on the night shift. Each appeared at the Immigration Service and took the citizenship test and each scored 100%--perfecto. Congratulations. Maria of Brazil has been sworn in as a citizen in Maryland. Roshan who speaks his native Hindi, Cantonese and English is from Virginia. He recently transferred from Potomac Café to Woodland Skies Restaurant.
